Our culture of persistent resource overexploitation is responsible for both our “success” — our extraordinary American way of life—and our “predicament” — irreparable societal overextension. And, since we are unwilling to voluntarily relinquish our success in order to resolve our predicament, our culture of persistent resource overexploitation will also be responsible for our inevitable and imminent destiny — societal collapse.

PS. The spelling (Amerika) was borrowed from Kafka’s “Amerika”, because his work is disturbing and foreboding; and there is nothing more disturbing and foreboding today than Amerika’s future.
